Be Patience, Tinubu’s Reforms Will Deliver Long-Term Gains- Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to remain patient and hopeful as President Bola Tinubu’s administration implements sweeping reforms, assuring that the measures are designed to secure lasting prosperity.

Speaking as chairman at the Second Plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), Akpabio likened nation-building to the gradual construction of a cathedral.

“Do not lose heart when the storms rage or the scaffolding trembles,” he said. “A nation is like a grand cathedral, it is built stone by stone, prayer by prayer, and hand in hand. Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.”

He appealed for national unity and collective effort across sectors:

“Let us heal divisions, reject despair, and work together, Church and State, pulpit and parliament, faith and policy to usher in a new dawn. Transformation is neither the duty of government alone nor the privilege of a few; it is a shared covenant.”

Representing President Tinubu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, reiterated the administration’s resolve to stabilise the economy, attract foreign investments, and expand opportunities for citizens.

“This government is committed to renewing hope and creating a Nigeria that works for everyone,” Akume said.

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno praised the Catholic Church’s global contributions to justice and democracy, outlining his administration’s poverty alleviation initiatives and calling for sustained Church-government collaboration to support the poor and vulnerable.

The conference brought together bishops from across Nigeria, clergy, lawmakers, political leaders, and the Apostolic Nuncio, Most Rev. Michael Crotty, who conveyed Pope Leo’s blessings and solidarity with the Nigerian Church.

The overall message from Akpabio and the gathering was unmistakable: Nigeria’s renewal depends on patience, shared sacrifice, and steadfast commitment to unity and faith.
