Former Senator representing Osun West, Mudashiru Hussein, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election in Osun State under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hussein made his declaration on Tuesday after a meeting with the State Working Committee and party stakeholders at the APC secretariat in Osogbo.

The Ejigbo-born politician urged party members to rally behind his ambition, stressing that his long years of legislative and administrative service have equipped him for the role.

“I swear to Almighty God, I have the experience to govern this state,” he told cheering supporters. “I served in the House of Representatives for eight years, the Senate for four years, and as a Federal Commissioner. I also acted as Secretary to the State Government. If it’s about experience, I have it.”

The former lawmaker pledged to support whoever emerges as the APC flagbearer among the dozen aspirants already in the race, saying party unity was key to reclaiming power from the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

State APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, welcomed the influx of aspirants, describing it as a sign of the party’s strength and bright chances in the 2026 poll.

Other notable contenders for the APC ticket include NIWA Managing Director Bola Oyebamiji, former Senate Rules and Business Committee chairman Senator Babajide Omoworare, lawyer Dotun Babayemi, ex-Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Mutual Assurance Benefits chairman Akin Ogunbiyi, and Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kunle Adegoke.
