The Federal Government has approved ₦3 billion to bolster the Super Eagles’ campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu tipped to lead a newly formed Presidential Task Force.

The initiative, championed by President Bola Tinubu, comes in response to Nigeria’s dismal start to the qualifiers, where the Super Eagles have managed just three points from four matches and sit fifth in their six-team group.

The Presidential Task Force aims to revitalize the team’s chances by mobilizing resources, enhancing administrative support, and implementing strategies to ensure a successful qualification.

Key stakeholders, including the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and private sector sponsors, are expected to collaborate with the group.

A significant portion of the funds will be allocated to key areas such as logistics, training camps, international friendlies, and the hiring of a foreign coach to guide the team back on track.

With the stakes high, this bold move underscores the government’s determination to avoid missing out on a second consecutive World Cup appearance.
