Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has emphatically declared that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan will run for the presidency in 2027 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and reclaim power.
Gana made the assertion while speaking to journalists shortly after the PDP Niger State Congress held in Minna over the weekend. He said Nigerians had compared leadership styles since Jonathan left office and were now eager for his return.
“In 2015, President Goodluck Jonathan told Nigerians his ambition was not worth their blood. Since then, we have had another President for eight years and the current one for two years. Nigerians have now seen the difference, and it is very clear. They are asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan,” Gana said.
He continued: “I can authoritatively confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election under the PDP. We must get ready to vote for him so that he can return as President.”
Gana praised the PDP as a democratic and grassroots-driven party, insisting that it had always provided Nigerians with the freedom to choose their leaders. According to him, the party’s enduring popularity rests on its pro-people policies and programmes.
On the party’s internal issues, the elder statesman dismissed suggestions of division, noting that past disagreements were resolved during a consultative meeting convened by the founding fathers in Abuja. “That is behind us now. The PDP is united and fully prepared for the 2027 contest,” he assured.
According to Vanguard, Gana urged Nigerians to open their eyes and vote out the current administration, stressing that Jonathan’s return would guarantee a restoration of good governance.
Meanwhile, the Niger State congress produced Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu as the new chairman of the PDP with 1,289 votes, defeating the Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi (Ability), who scored 1,269 votes.
Other winners included Alhaji Khadi Kuta, who was returned unopposed as Secretary, and Mrs. Salome Ndakosu, who polled 1,373 votes to defeat Ramotu Jibrin, who garnered 590 votes, to emerge Woman Leader.
In his acceptance speech, Halidu called for unity, urging members to close ranks and work together to ensure the PDP’s victory in 2027 and the restoration of a people-focused government.
