Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has celebrated his 25th anniversary in the music industry with a touching open letter of gratitude.
In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, the music icon reflected on his journey, expressing appreciation to everyone who has contributed to his success over the past two and a half decades.
“As I stand on the threshold of 25 years in this incredible journey called music, my heart is full of gratitude, memories, lessons, and love,” he wrote. “This celebration is not mine alone. It belongs to everyone who played a role in shaping the story of Innocent Idibia, 2Baba.”
2Baba paid tribute to Nelson Brown, who discovered and nurtured the dreams of the iconic group Plantashun Boiz, which launched his career alongside Faze and Blackface. “You were the first to see light in the dream of three young men when no one else believed. You gave us a voice when we barely had a microphone, a space when all we had was a dream,” he said.
He also acknowledged industry veterans Baba Keke and D1, crediting them for giving him his first professional record deal — a move he said transformed not only his career but also Nigeria’s entertainment landscape. “You opened doors that led us from dreams to destiny. We made history together; we won together. You stood as mentors and big brothers, and your names will forever be etched in my story,” he wrote.
2Baba further thanked Eddie Lawani for providing a platform for Plantashun Boiz to showcase their talent during their early years and DJ Jimmy Jatt for his unwavering support and loyalty.
The celebrated artist emphasized that the milestone was not just a personal achievement but also a celebration of everyone who has contributed to the growth of Nigerian music.
“Without the people who believed, corrected, and supported me, my story would have been incomplete,” he noted.
With classic hits like African Queen, If Love Is a Crime, and For Instance, 2Baba has solidified his place as one of Africa’s most influential and respected musicians, using his artistry to promote love, unity, and social change.
