Sean “Diddy” Combs’ newly released Netflix docuseries — Sean Combs: The Reckoning — has thrust the embattled music mogul back into the spotlight, reigniting long-standing controversies tied to the turbulent 1990s hip-hop era and the unsolved murders of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G.

The four-part series, executive-produced not by Diddy, but by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, has become a cultural flashpoint since its release. Its arrival has intensified the decades-long tension between Combs and 50 Cent, while stirring renewed debate over allegations that have followed Diddy for years.

Combs, who is currently serving a 50-month federal sentence for offences related to prostitution, condemned the documentary as a “shameful hit piece.” He accused Netflix of using footage without permission and claimed that 50 Cent’s “personal vendetta” motivated the project.

The docuseries includes interviews with accusers, former industry insiders, jurors from Combs’ federal trial, and previously unseen footage recorded days before his 2024 arrest. It also traces Combs’ rise through Bad Boy Entertainment, revisits the Biggie–Tupac era, and highlights new allegations of abuse — all of which Diddy has strongly denied. Netflix stated it contacted his legal team repeatedly but received no response.

50 Cent has maintained that his involvement is not driven by revenge. He said several people entrusted him with their experiences when others refused, adding that he aimed to give “a voice to the voiceless.” His feud with Combs dates back to the early 2000s, fuelled by contract disputes, public clashes, and controversies leading up to Cassie Ventura’s 2023 lawsuit.

Meanwhile, at Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution in New Jersey, Combs works as a chaplain’s aide and participates in therapy programmes that could reduce his sentence. He continues to challenge his conviction and insists on his innocence.

As The Reckoning tops streaming charts, it has elevated 50 Cent’s profile in true-crime entertainment and reignited one of hip-hop’s most divisive conversations — with Diddy once again at the centre of the storm
