The Oklahoma City Thunder marked the return of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with a
gritty 127-121 overtime victory over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday morning.
Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning NBA MVP, scored 36 points in just under 34
minutes after missing nine games with an abdominal strain.
“Felt good. I’m just thankful to be back,” he said.
Denver, led by Jamal Murray’s 39 points and Nikola Jokic’s 23-point triple-double,
had led by 16 and forced overtime, but the Thunder opened the extra period with a
5-0 run and held firm to maintain a two-game lead over the San Antonio Spurs atop
the Western Conference.
In the East, the Detroit Pistons edged the Cleveland Cavaliers 122-119 in overtime.
Jalen Duren had 33 points and 16 rebounds as Detroit improved to 43-14.
The Boston Celtics bounced back from a recent defeat with a dominant 148-111 win over
the Brooklyn Nets, while the New York Knicks cruised past the Milwaukee Bucks
127-98 to stay firmly in the hunt for second place in the East.
