Nigeria National League outfit Abakaliki FC have reached the final of the 2025 President Federation Cup after edging top-tier side Ikorodu City 5-4 on penalties in Abuja on Wednesday.
The semi-final at the Bwari Township Stadium ended goalless after regulation time, but Abakaliki held their nerve in the shootout, continuing a sensational run that has seen them upset multiple Nigeria Premier Football League sides.
Having previously stunned Katsina United and nine-time champions Enyimba before edging Nasarawa United on penalties, the Salt City club’s latest triumph sets up a first-ever final appearance against Kwara United also debuting in the final guaranteeing a new winner in the storied competition.
NNL Chairman George Aluo lauded Abakaliki’s feat as proof of the league’s growing quality, while NPFL boss Gbenga Elegbeleye praised the team’s discipline and the Federation Cup’s enduring ability to produce fairytales.
In the other semi-final, Wasiu Alalade’s goal earned Kwara United a 1-0 win over Rangers at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, sealing their own place in the final.
