A 21-year-old university student has been apprehended by the Abia State Police Command for illegal possession of guns. The culprit, pinpointed as Chidozie Humble is a 300-level student of the Department of Animal Breeding and Physiology at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
Based on a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer – DSP Maureen Chinaka, officers from the Serious Crime Investigation Squad (SCISSORS) acted on credible intelligence and captured the suspect at Royal Heritage Lodge, Umudike, located in Ikwuano Local Government Area. The operation took place on March 5, 2025 at approximately 10:50 a.m., which led to the retrieval of multiple weapons including three locally-made pistols and one English CZECH SCORPION pistol.
The police command stressed its continuous efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety in the state. Currently, probes are underway to detect and nab possible co-conspirators linked to the alleged offender.
Similarly, law implementation authorities have emphasized their determination to maintaining security across Abia State, encouraging members of the public to provide valuable information that could facilitate in crime prevention. The arrest of the university student raises concerns about the proliferation of weapons among young individuals specifically within academic environments.
