ADC Denies Reports of David Mark’s Resignation, Calls Claims ‘Fabrication’
The African Democratic Congress has dismissed reports suggesting that its National Chairman, David Mark, has stepped down from his position, describing the claims as false and deliberately misleading.
In a statement issued by his media office, signed by Paul Mumeh, the party said there was no truth to the speculation, insisting that Mark remains firmly in charge of the party’s leadership.
The ADC described the reports as a calculated attempt to create confusion within its ranks at a time when Nigeria’s political landscape is beginning to shift ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to the party, there has been no discussion or consideration of resignation by its chairman or any member of the leadership.
“The claim exists only in the imagination of those bent on spreading falsehood,” the statement said, warning against what it called a growing trend of misinformation aimed at destabilising opposition parties.
The denial comes amid an ongoing leadership tussle within the ADC, which has been embroiled in legal and internal disputes since 2025. The crisis has led to multiple court cases and conflicting claims to leadership positions, drawing in the Independent National Electoral Commission, which recently delisted certain party officials from its records in compliance with a court directive.
Political observers say such developments have heightened tensions within opposition parties, raising concerns about their preparedness for the next election cycle.
Despite the challenges, the ADC maintained that its leadership remains united and focused on strengthening democratic participation and providing an alternative platform for Nigerians dissatisfied with the status quo.
The party also alleged that attempts to spread false information about its leadership were driven by fear of its growing influence and evolving political alignments ahead of 2027.
Reaffirming its commitment to Nigeria’s multi-party democracy, the ADC urged the public to disregard the reports and remain confident in its internal stability and direction.
