The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that the Obidient movement will play a critical role in determining the direction of the 2027 elections, insisting that its influence cannot be ignored in the political calculations leading up to the polls.

This assertion was made by party stalwart Chille Igbawua, who emphasized in a recent interaction with journalists that the movement, which sprang up in support of Peter Obi’s presidential bid in 2023, has continued to expand and consolidate.

According to him, many Obidient loyalists have since been integrated into the ADC’s leadership framework, where they are actively contributing to the party’s strategic decisions.

Igbawua argued that while there may be perceptions that some Obidient members operate independently of Obi, the former governor of Anambra State has remained firmly connected to the coalition.

He explained that Obi has been part of the leadership discussions and has offered direction in building structures within the ADC that will ensure the party has a solid foundation going into 2027.

He further addressed concerns about divisions within the Obidient family and the Labour Party, acknowledging that internal disagreements exist but stressing that those still aligned with Obi have now found a political home in the ADC.

This, he said, gives the party a significant advantage in attracting grassroots supporters and mobilizing a broad spectrum of Nigerians who are eager for change.

The ADC chieftain also revealed that the party has gone beyond mere rhetoric and is working seriously to position itself as a credible alternative.

He stated that preparations are already underway to produce a comprehensive manifesto that speaks directly to Nigeria’s pressing challenges, as well as a well-thought-out governance blueprint that will serve as a guide when the party assumes office.

In his words, the ADC intends to “hit the ground running” and ensure that it does not waste time if entrusted with power after the 2027 elections.

Igbawua maintained that with the Obidient movement’s energy and widespread appeal, combined with ADC’s organizational readiness, the party is confident of reshaping the nation’s political future in the next electoral cycle.
