Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has debunked claims that he is planning to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the speculation as an attempt to create confusion in the state.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo on Wednesday, Adeleke said the report was “a calculated attempt by those threatened by the Governor’s growing popularity to mislead the public.”
The governor reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pledging to run for a second term on the party’s platform.
“Governor Adeleke remains committed to the PDP and has no plan whatsoever to join the ADC or any other party.
“His focus is on delivering the dividends of democracy to Osun people, who overwhelmingly elected him three years ago,” the statement read.
Adeleke also noted that his administration and PDP leaders were working to mobilise support for the ongoing voter registration drive ahead of next year’s elections.
“Those spreading falsehoods are merely exploiting the goodwill the governor enjoys among Osun people,” the statement added, urging the public to ignore such reports and instead focus on ensuring victory for the PDP.
The clarification comes amid growing defections from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Several prominent figures, including lawmakers representing Oriade/Obokun, Ife Federal Constituencies, and two Osun Senators, have recently left the party, citing leadership disputes and a need to align with President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Despite the turbulence, Adeleke insisted that he remains committed to strengthening the PDP and leading it to victory in the forthcoming polls.
