Ademola Lookman is facing a spell on the sidelines with a calf injury just as negotiations intensify over a potential move to Inter Milan.
The Atalanta forward experienced pain during Wednesday’s training and is now undergoing tests to determine the extent of the problem.
While early indications suggest the issue is not serious, Lookman has been pulled from full training for the time being.
The setback comes amid strong interest from Inter Milan, who have reportedly agreed personal terms with the Super Eagles star.
However, their €40 million bid is still below Atalanta’s €60 million valuation for domestic rivals.
Inter are now considering sweetening the deal by including midfielder Kristjan Asllani as part of a player-plus-cash package to meet Atalanta’s demands.
Talks are ongoing, with the Nerazzurri hopeful that a prior verbal promise to allow Lookman leave this summer will hold weight.
The 27-year-old forward has become one of the hottest names in the market after back-to-back standout seasons in Serie A, including a 17-goal contribution to Atalanta’s Europa League triumph in 2023–24 and 20 more goals in the 2024–25 campaign.
Atletico Madrid and Arsenal have also shown interest, but Lookman reportedly favours a move to Inter and has given his approval.
His current deal with Atalanta runs until 2027. Both clubs will now monitor his recovery before making any definitive moves.
