ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has launched a fresh attack on Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of subjecting her to treatment unworthy of an elected lawmaker and likening it to that of a domestic servant.

The embattled senator spoke on Tuesday while addressing journalists at her National Assembly office shortly after it was reopened by the Sergeant-at-Arms.

This marked her return following a six-month suspension from parliamentary activities.

Her suspension, which was widely debated, came after she accused the Senate President of sexual harassment, an allegation she has not yet proven. Natasha described her suspension period as a grueling test of endurance and survival.

“From the unjust suspension to the recall, we survived the blockade of roads, we survived the blackmail from the crazy lady on Facebook, it’s incredible what we had to survive,” she recounted.

The lawmaker extended appreciation to her family, constituents, Nigerians, and her husband, saying their support helped her endure the ordeal. “I give glory to God Almighty and my deepest gratitude to the people of Kogi Central senatorial district, to Nigerians at large, and to my husband. I pray that all men support their wives the way you have supported me,” she said.

Natasha emphasized the importance of resisting oppression and testing the strength of democratic institutions. “Sometimes, it is necessary to put the institutions to the test. We cannot cower in the face of injustice. No one is more Nigerian than the other,” she declared.

She went further to accuse Akpabio of running the Senate in a dictatorial fashion. “Senator Akpabio is not more of a senator than I am. He is not the governor of this place, yet he treated me as though I was his servant or a domestic staff in his house. It is very unfortunate that in this democratic era, the National Assembly is being run under such dictatorship. It is totally unacceptable,” Natasha stated.

Despite her suspension, the senator insisted that she remained committed to serving the people of Kogi Central. “For me, I am glad to be back. Even though we were unjustly suspended, not for a single day did I hesitate in carrying out my duties as senator of Kogi Central to the very best of my ability,” she affirmed.

Her comments come amid ongoing tensions between her and the Senate leadership, particularly Akpabio, whom she continues to accuse of highhandedness and disregard for due process.
