Carlos Alcaraz claimed his first indoor title with a hard-fought victory over Alex de Minaur in the Rotterdam Open final on Sunday.

The world number three overcame a second-set fightback to win 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, securing his 17th ATP Tour title.

The 21-year-old Spaniard, who had been battling a cold all week, made history as the youngest player to win titles on clay, grass, hard courts, and indoor hard courts.

His triumph also made him the first Spaniard to lift the Rotterdam trophy.

“It has been a really good week,” Alcaraz said. “Coming here not feeling 100% well, I got better every day thanks to my team. I just want to say thank you.”

After splitting the first two sets, Alcaraz took control in the decider, breaking De Minaur for a 4-2 lead before sealing victory in his tournament debut.

He is the first Rotterdam champion to win on debut since Lleyton Hewitt in 2004.
