Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has blamed President Bola Tinubu of using emergency rule in Rivers State as a political strategy to compel governors into endorsing his 2027 re-election bid. Amaechi, in an interview with DW Africa characterized the move as unconstitutional—arguing that it instills fear among governors. He emphasized that Governor Siminalayi Fubara should not be held responsible for the state’s crisis—claiming the dispute is between Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Amaechi claimed that the crisis between Fubara and Wike revolves around financial allocations, thereby questioning the true cause of their feud. He encouraged Rivers residents to resist Tinubu’s actions through democratic protests while also criticizing the state of democracy in Rivers—comparing it to military rule.
