Amorim Admits United’s Struggles Contribute to Job Cuts at Old Trafford

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that the team’s poor performances on the pitch have played a role in the job cuts affecting the club.

Co-owner Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos group have come under scrutiny after reducing United’s workforce by around 25% over the summer, with further layoffs expected as they look to cut losses that have reached £300 million over the past three years.

Alongside the staff reductions, ticket prices have risen, adding to growing concerns among fans. Amorim, whose side currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League, believes the first-team players and coaching staff must take some responsibility for the situation.

“I think it’s really important for us in the first team, coaches and players, not to ignore that,” Amorim stated. “People are losing their jobs, so we have to acknowledge that. And the biggest problem is the football team because we spend the money, we are not winning, we are not in the Champions League, so the revenues are not the same. People are losing their jobs… and that affects the environment, so I think we cannot ignore.”

The Portuguese coach further emphasized: “We acknowledge that problem, and I want to say that the responsible (people) is the first team.”

United will have a chance to ease the pressure when they visit 15th-placed Tottenham on Sunday in what is shaping up to be a crucial battle for both struggling sides.
