Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has warned that his team faces a fight for Premier League survival after a 2-0 loss to Newcastle on Monday left them 14th in the table, just seven points above the relegation zone.
United, who have suffered three consecutive home defeats, conceded early goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton within the first 19 minutes, extending their recent woes under Amorim, who took charge last month.
“It’s really clear—we have to fight,” Amorim said after the match. “This is one of the most difficult moments in Manchester United’s history, and we need to face it with honesty. We must fight in the next game.”
Looking ahead, United faces a challenging schedule with a trip to Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday, followed by an FA Cup clash with Arsenal.
Despite criticism of his tactical approach, particularly his unwavering commitment to the 3-4-3 formation, Amorim remained resolute.
After a poor start, he substituted Joshua Zirkzee for Kobbie Mainoo in the 33rd minute, but the damage had already been done.
Amorim stood firm, saying, “You cannot go back, you have to continue to push. I was brought here because of my idea, and I will stick with it until the end, no matter the consequences.”
