Ruben Amorim has been granted a three-year period to prove his capabilities at Manchester United, as co-owner Jim Ratcliffe emphasized the importance of avoiding impulsive decisions regarding the beleaguered manager’s future.

Throughout this season, Amorim has faced persistent rumors about his job security as the team navigated a series of crises. The ex-Sporting Lisbon manager, appointed by Ratcliffe in November 2024, acknowledged earlier in the season that he had contemplated resigning during some of United’s most challenging times.

United, currently in tenth place, have had a rocky start this season, suffering three losses in their first seven league matches and experiencing an unexpected League Cup elimination at the hands of fourth-tier Grimsby.

Since taking over from the dismissed Erik ten Hag, Amorim has not yet managed to secure back-to-back victories in the Premier League, with a match against reigning champions Liverpool coming up after the international break.

Despite ongoing speculation about his potential dismissal, Ratcliffe assured that the 40-year-old coach would be allowed time to improve the team’s performance, especially after a recent win against promoted Sunderland.

“He hasn’t had the most successful season. Ruben must show he is an exceptional coach over three years. That’s my perspective,” Ratcliffe stated on The Business podcast, produced by The Times and The Sunday Times.

“Sometimes I find it hard to understand the media. They expect immediate success, as if it’s just a matter of flipping a switch and everything will be perfect the next day.”

“You can’t manage a club like Manchester United based on impulsive reactions to journalists who may be overly critical each week.”

Ratcliffe has held nearly 30 percent ownership of United since February 2024, when he took charge of football operations at the storied club.

This leaves the Glazer family, who have faced significant fan protests since their takeover in 2005, still in overall control at Old Trafford.

United has not claimed the English title since 2013, and their last European trophy was the 2017 Europa League.
