Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admitted his frustration after a 2-1 Premier League defeat to Aston Villa was compounded by an injury to captain Bruno Fernandes on Sunday.
Morgan Rogers scored twice for Villa, while United were forced into a midfield reshuffle at half-time after Fernandes was taken off with what Amorim described as a possible soft-tissue problem.
“I think we were the better team today. We were unlucky, even with the injury of Bruno,” Amorim said. “We did a very good job that no one is going to remember tomorrow, because what matters is the result.”
The United boss said there was no immediate timeline for Fernandes’ return, as youngsters Shea Lacey and Jack Fletcher were handed their debuts.
“We cannot use anything as an excuse,” Amorim added. “It will make us stronger.”
Defender Diogo Dalot admitted Fernandes’ absence would be a major blow. “It’s massive. For him to come off, we know how tough he is,” he said. “But we are Manchester United, and we have to find a way to win.”
