Tobi Amusan underlined her supremacy in the women’s 100m hurdles by winning her fifth national title at the 2025 AFN National Trials in Lagos, storming home in 12.57s at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex.
The world record holder got off to a blistering start and never looked back, with rising star Adaobi Tabugbo finishing second in 13.03s and Faith Osamuyi third in 13.36s.
The 28-year-old’s victory continues her dominance on home soil as she fine-tunes for the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
In the men’s 400m, Gafar Badmus powered to gold with a season’s best 45.71s, holding off Ezekiel Asuquo in 46.29s and David Akhalu in 46.91s.
The women’s 400m produced drama after multiple champion Patience Okon-George was disqualified for a false start, allowing African U-20 champion Favour Onyah to seize her moment, crossing in 52.69s. Opeyemi Deborah Oke and Anita Enaruna followed in second and third.
Chioma Nweke also emerged as one of the stars of the trials, storming to her maiden women’s 100m crown in 11.27s to dethrone Olayinka Olajide, who finished in 11.39s, while Iyanuoluwa Bada settled for third in 11.45s.
