The Anambra State House of Assembly has suspended Bernard Udemezue, member representing Ayamelum Constituency, for three months over what it described as “damaging” social media posts.
Udemezue, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had alleged on his social media pages that Ayamelum Constituency was being marginalised in the distribution of constituency allowances.
In response, the Assembly, during plenary last Tuesday, passed a resolution summoning him following a motion of urgent public importance raised by Tony Muobike, representing Aguata 2 Constituency, and seconded by Chief Whip Jude Ngobili of Ihiala 1 Constituency.
The Speaker, Somtochukwu Udeze, thereafter referred the matter to the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges for investigation and recommendations.
Presenting its findings at Tuesday’s plenary, the committee urged disciplinary action, leading the Assembly to resolve that Udemezue be suspended for three months.
