The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of one of its chieftains, Barrister Jesutega Onokpasa, a prominent lawyer and political analyst.
Barrister Onokpasa passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, although the news of his death was only made public the next day.
Until his death, Onokpasa was a vocal supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He was a key member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 general elections and was known for his fiery commentaries, legal intellect, and unwavering loyalty to the ruling party.
News of his death was confirmed via social media by political ally and pro-APC voice, Okezie Atani. He wrote: “We lost Barr. Jesutega Onokpasa, may his soul rest in perfect peace.”
Tributes have begun pouring in from colleagues, party members, and political observers across the country. The “Renewed Hope United Kingdom” movement described his death as “a profound loss to the Nigerian political and legal landscape.”
Onokpasa, who held degrees in law and was a well-regarded public affairs analyst, often appeared on national TV to defend government policies and dissect political issues. He was admired for his sharp wit and passionate delivery.
While the cause of death has not been made public, sources close to the family have requested privacy as arrangements for his burial are being finalized.
Jesutega Onokpasa is survived by his wife, children, and extended family.
The APC is yet to issue an official statement at the time of filing this report.
