The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo over his recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, describing it as a desperate move to reclaim political relevance ahead of the November 2025 governorship election.
In a statement issued by Okechukwu Modebe, spokesperson for the Nicholas Ukachukwu/Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organisation, dismissed the meeting as “the last kick of a dying horse” and accused Soludo of misgovernance, weak grassroots engagement, and a series of political blunders.
“This latest attempt to posture for the cameras with Mr President cannot erase four years of misgovernance, disconnection from the grassroots, and political miscalculations. Parading such meetings as endorsements insults the intelligence of Anambra voters,” the statement read.
Soludo, a leading figure in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), met Tinubu on Tuesday and pledged support for his 2027 re-election bid. However, the APC alleged that Soludo’s camp was presenting the visit as a political endorsement from the President, which the party insisted “does not exist.”
Modebe reaffirmed the APC’s focus on the upcoming governorship election and the August 16 Anambra South senatorial re-run, describing their candidate, Chief Azuka Okwuosa, as “a political iron-gate” who would expose APGA’s diminishing influence.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure credible polls, warning that “the days of business-as-usual in Anambra politics are over.”
Despite the criticism, President Tinubu praised the visit in a social media post on Wednesday.“It was a pleasure to welcome my friend of over two decades and the Governor of Anambra State, Governor Charles Soludo, to the Aso Villa yesterday,” Tinubu wrote.
The President said their discussions centred on ongoing reforms, security challenges, and expanding opportunities for Nigerian youths.
“We share a firm belief that all who profess progressivism must work together to deepen our democracy, strengthen security, and transform our economy. We will continue to take a bet on our dear country, Nigeria, to ensure sustainable and shared prosperity for the future,” he added.
The Anambra governorship election is slated for November 8, 2025.
