The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted claims by former senator Kabiru Garba Marafa that he was instrumental in securing one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 elections.
In a statement issued in Gusau on Wednesday, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Umar Danfulani, described Marafa’s assertion as “empty boasting” that did not reflect political realities.
Danfulani argued that Tinubu’s electoral victory in Zamfara was the result of the APC’s grassroots structures and the influence of respected leaders within the party, not the efforts of an individual.
“The truth is that Marafa was voted out of the Senate by his own constituents in 2019, and he has yet to recover from that political defeat,” he said. “Even during the 2023 polls, he made baseless claims that had no bearing on the outcome of the elections.”
According to him, leaders such as former Governor Bello Matawalle and Senator Abdulaziz Yari were central to mobilizing support for the APC.
Danfulani further dismissed Marafa’s threats ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the former lawmaker no longer wields political relevance in Zamfara.
“It is laughable that Marafa, who could not win his own ward or local government, now claims he has the power to reduce Tinubu’s votes,” he added.
The APC chairman maintained that the party remains firmly united in Zamfara, citing its recent win in the Kaura Namoda South State Assembly bye-election as evidence of sustained grassroots support.
He urged members to ignore Marafa’s comments, stressing that the party’s strength lies in collective leadership and the confidence of the electorate.
