APGA Founder Leads Push For Ndigbo Political Participation In 2027

August 16, 2025

The pioneer National Chairman and founder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chekwas Okorie, is mobilising Igbo political leaders and elites for discussions on the participation of Ndigbo in the 2027 elections and beyond.

In a letter inviting some Igbo leaders to a meeting, Okorie wrote: “After a number of consultations, it became compelling that a select numbers of our leaders across political party lines and other critical stakeholders be invited to deliberate on what ought to be the agenda of Ndigbo in Nigerian politics irrespective of political party affiliation.”

He further stated: “God has blessed Ndigbo with a huge population and enviable geographical spread, which have remained largely untapped over the years. We have no excuse to lack relevance and well deserved respect in Nigeria.”

Okorie clarified that the meeting was not solely about the 2027 elections. “We owe ourselves and our younger generations the responsibility to provide the required guidance and chart a deliberate action-plan to reverse our present unacceptable situation in a sustainable manner. It is for this and other related matters, that this meeting has become compelling and crucial,” he said.

The gathering, to be held under the platform of Igbo Agenda Dialogue, is scheduled for the last week of August 2025 in Abuja. Sources disclosed that most of the invitees have already accepted the invitation enthusiastically.
