Actress and media personality Ariyiike Owolagba, popularly known as Ariyiike Dimples, has shared the incident that pushed her away from church for three years.
Speaking on the Open Up podcast, Ariyiike recounted how an elderly woman at her community church confronted her over her outfit, claiming she would “go to hell” for wearing a pencil skirt. The experience, she said, left her feeling shocked, wrongly judged, and ultimately discouraged from returning to the church.
Ariyiike explained that although she stepped away from that congregation, she remains a practicing Christian but now prefers worship spaces that are more welcoming and less judgmental, especially toward young people.
“In my community church, you see only elderly people. The young ones have gone to other churches. Yes, you can have your doctrines, but there is a way you can simplify it for young people without judging them,” she said.
She added that the woman even reported her to her father, forcing her to send photos of the skirt to her mother to prove she wasn’t dressed indecently. To avoid further scrutiny, Ariyiike chose to stop attending the community church entirely.
“I was shocked and felt wrongly judged, so I stopped going to church for three years,” she recalled.
