Arsenal are finalising the signing of Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, with only add-on negotiations delaying the £63.5m move.
The 27-year-old Sweden international has already agreed to a five-year deal, and while Arsenal had hoped to seal the transfer before the start of their pre-season tour of Asia, discussions over bonus payments slowed progress.
Gyokeres scored 54 goals in 52 matches last season, and his total of 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting has made him one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe.
After missing out on Benjamin Sesko, Mikel Arteta turned his attention to Gyokeres as he looks to fix Arsenal’s attacking problems from last season.
The Gunners recently added Noni Madueke from Chelsea to boost their forward options.
Gyokeres, a former Brighton and Coventry striker, brings more than just goals, boasting a shot conversion rate of 28.4% and strong creative numbers.
His powerful runs, sharp movement, and high work rate have made him a top target.
