Arsenal have confirmed the signing of England winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial £48.5 million, rising to just over £50 million with add-ons.
The 23-year-old departed Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad in the United States before their 3-0 final win over PSG to finalise the transfer. He has penned a five-year contract with the Gunners.
Madueke shared his delight after sealing the move, writing on Instagram, “Humbled and blessed to be here. Thank you to everyone that made this possible. I can’t wait to get on the pitch and start to repay the faith shown in me. It’s going to be so special.”
Manager Mikel Arteta welcomed the addition, describing Madueke as “an exciting and powerful young player, with his performances and numbers in recent seasons being of consistently high quality.” Arteta added, “He is one of the most talented wide forward players in the Premier League… his arrival will really improve our squad.”
Madueke made 92 appearances for Chelsea after arriving from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, scoring 20 goals and helping the Blues win the UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup last season.
Before that, he came through the academies at Crystal Palace and Tottenham and won the Dutch Cup during his time in the Netherlands.
He made his senior England debut in August 2024, setting up Harry Kane’s winner in a World Cup qualifier against Andorra.
Despite his talent, the transfer had triggered backlash among some Arsenal fans earlier this month.
A #NoToMadueke petition drew over 5,000 signatures, and murals near the Emirates were defaced with ‘Arteta Out’ messages.
Still, the club has pressed on with its summer rebuild. Madueke becomes Arsenal’s fourth signing and second from Chelsea, following the arrival of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Midfielders Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi have also joined, while deals for striker Viktor Gyokeres and Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera are reportedly close.
