Arsenal saw their Premier League title charge suffer a setback after being held to a frustrating
1-1 draw by Brentford on Thursday night at the G-Tech Community Stadium.
With Manchester City having cut their advantage a day earlier, Mikel Arteta’s side needed a
response but struggled to break down a disciplined Brentford team who have been formidable at home this season.
The breakthrough came in the 61st minute when Noni Madueke rose to head Piero Hincapie’s
cross beyond Caoimhin Kelleher, seemingly putting Arsenal back in control of the top of the
table.
Brentford responded swiftly as Keane Lewis-Potter reacted quickest to nod in after a long throw from Michael Kayode caused confusion in the Arsenal box, cancelling out the leaders’
advantage.
Both sides pushed for a winner late on. Igor Thiago was denied by a crucial tackle from
Cristhian Mosquera, while Gabriel Martinelli saw a stoppage-time effort saved by Kelleher.
Arsenal depart West London with their title charge stalled and the race at the summit tightening once more.
