Athletic Club booked their place in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Rangers, extending their perfect home record to six wins from six this season.
The Basque side dominated much of the first half and finally broke the deadlock in stoppage time when Oihan Sancet converted a penalty after Harry Souttar brought down Maroan Sannadi in the box.
Rangers, who had earlier been denied a penalty despite Cyriel Dessers being pulled down, responded well after the break and came close to equalising when Nicolas Raskin struck the post.
However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed in the 80th minute as Nico Williams rose to head home a pinpoint cross from Óscar de Marcos, sealing the result.
Athletic will now face Manchester United in the last four, while Rangers’ European campaign ends with a fifth consecutive knockout defeat to Spanish opposition.
