Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has refuted reports suggesting he pledged to prioritize Yoruba interests should he emerge president in the 2027 elections, describing the allegations as false and politically motivated.

The reports, which circulated widely across online platforms on Wednesday, attributed the claim to one Kola Johnson, identified as Atiku’s “media consultant.”

In a swift response on Thursday, Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, issued a statement disowning both Johnson and the remarks.

He stressed that Atiku had no professional or personal relationship with Johnson and that the statement was entirely fabricated.

“Our findings point directly to the Presidency, which, in its desperation to tarnish opposition leaders, has resorted to hiring faceless individuals to concoct fake stories and release unauthorized statements in Atiku’s name,” Ibe declared.

He further condemned the suggestion that an Atiku-led administration would favour one ethnic group, calling it a dangerous fabrication intended to mislead Nigerians.

According to him, “Atiku Abubakar has never engaged one Kola Johnson as a media consultant, aide, or associate. Any statement issued under that name is fake and should be disregarded. We urge all media houses that published such falsehoods to immediately retract them.”

The statement also urged journalists and members of the public to be vigilant against propaganda and fake news, warning that the Tinubu administration was allegedly sponsoring disinformation campaigns to weaken opposition figures.

Ibe emphasized that any authentic communication from the former Vice President would only come through the Atiku Media Office, signed either by himself or Atiku’s special assistant on public communications.

Atiku, a veteran politician and former presidential candidate, has repeatedly insisted that his political vision is built on inclusivity, unity, and national development, not ethnic preference.
