Atletico Madrid revived their FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Seattle Sounders, eliminating the MLS outfit after a third straight group-stage defeat.

Pablo Barrios opened the scoring with a brilliant first-time strike off the underside of the bar, setting the tone early after Atletico’s heavy loss to PSG last time out.

Alexander Sørloth missed a handful of chances to double the lead, while Jan Oblak was tested by Danny Musovski in a lively first half.

VAR denied Atletico a penalty before the break, but Axel Witsel made an instant impact after coming on, nodding in Atleti’s second after Stefan Frei parried into danger.

Seattle briefly threatened a comeback as Albert Rusnak pounced on a defensive lapse to make it 2-1. But Barrios quickly struck again, punishing the Sounders’ failure to deal with a long throw.

Jesus Ferreira had a late goal ruled out for offside as the Americans bowed out.

Atletico now turn their attention to a decisive final group clash against Botafogo, while the Sounders will finish their campaign against PSG.
