AWONIYI NAMED

Nigeria and Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been named a PFA Community Champion for the 2024/25 season, recognising his dedication to charitable and community projects throughout the campaign.

Forest hailed Awoniyi’s ongoing off-field efforts in a statement on Tuesday, describing him as a proud and inspiring figure despite being sidelined due to a serious abdominal injury sustained after colliding with a goalpost in a match against Leicester City.

The PFA is also set to hold talks with football authorities over the delayed offside flag rule, which contributed to the incident, stressing the need to prioritise player safety.

Awoniyi was honoured alongside Manchester United duo Amad Diallo and Maya Le Tissier for their community work through the club’s foundation.
