Barcelona missed the chance to pull further clear at the top of LaLiga after being held to a 1-1 draw by Real Betis on Saturday, but head coach Hansi Flick called for calm as his side edged four points ahead of faltering rivals Real Madrid.
Despite dominating proceedings and creating several chances, Barcelona lacked the finishing touch at the Benito Villamarín, forcing Flick to reflect on the positives post-match.
“We tried everything to win,” said the 60-year-old. “Sometimes football just doesn’t go your way in front of goal. But we controlled the game, and that’s important.”
With Madrid losing 2-1 to Valencia earlier in the day, Barça’s draw still allowed them to increase their cushion at the summit, while Atletico Madrid remain ten points adrift with eight games remaining.
Flick, who is targeting a treble in his first season, praised his squad’s recent performances, adding: “We’re in a great position. We’re in the Copa del Rey final, still fighting in the Champions League, and leading LaLiga. There’s a lot to be proud of.”
