Harvey Barnes struck deep into stoppage time as Newcastle United scored twice in injury time to
snatch a stunning 4-3 Premier League victory over Leeds United, extending their unbeaten home
run across all competitions to 12 matches.
In a breathless contest on Tyneside, Leeds twice led and looked set for a famous away win, only
to be denied by Newcastle’s relentless finish.
After early warnings from the visitors, Leeds went ahead through Brenden Aaronson following a
sharp interception from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Barnes quickly restored parity, but Calvert-Lewin converted from the spot to send Leeds in front
again at the break.
Newcastle responded after half-time with a moment of Brazilian brilliance as Bruno Guimarães
teed up Joelinton for a superb diving header.
Leeds refused to fade and reclaimed the lead through Aaronson’s second, before Guimarães
equalised from the penalty spot after a late handball.
With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Barnes kept his nerve in injury time to fire home
the winner, sealing an extraordinary comeback and one of the matches of the Premier League
season.
