Bayelsa Queens Reach WAFU B Final After Comeback Win Over USFA

September 3, 2025

Bayelsa Queens are through to the final of the 2025 WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers after a 2-1 comeback victory over Burkina Faso’s USFA on Tuesday in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.

The Prosperity Girls, winners of the regional crown in 2022, fell behind early when Comfort Yeboah punished a defensive mix-up to score inside two minutes.

But they hit back quickly as Shakirat Moshood’s brilliant run created the opening for Emem Essien to head home the equaliser in the 15th minute.

Bayelsa continued to dictate the pace after the goal, with midfielders Alaba Olabiyi and Vera Samuel pulling the strings.

Their dominance paid off when Seimeyeha Akekoromowei struck in the 62nd minute, smashing in a thunderous effort from the edge of the box to seal the win.

Akekoromowei, who has been outstanding throughout the tournament, was named Player of the Match for the second time.

Bayelsa remain unbeaten and will now face Ivorian champions ASEC Mimosas in Friday’s final after the hosts thrashed Ghana’s Police Ladies 4-1.

Victory in the final would secure Bayelsa Queens a place at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League and potential entry into both the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup and FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.

The Nigerian side, who finished third at the continental finals in 2022, now stand one game away from another shot on Africa’s biggest stage.
