Bayer Leverkusen ended Borussia Dortmund’s long unbeaten home run with a 1-0 win on Tuesday, sealing their place in the German Cup quarter-finals.

Ibrahim Maza punished hesitant defending in the 34th minute, finishing calmly to give the visitors a lead they never surrendered.

Dortmund, who had not lost at home since early March, thought they were level just after the hour mark, but Martin Terrier’s strike was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.

Leverkusen held firm to complete the upset, days after losing to Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

RB Leipzig also advanced, coming from behind to beat FC Magdeburg 3-1 at home, with Christoph Baumgartner scoring twice.

The first 12 minutes of both games were played in silence as fans protested proposed security changes around German football.

Elsewhere, St Pauli earned a dramatic 2-1 win away at Borussia Moenchengladbach thanks to Louis Oppie’s late low finish.

In an all-second-tier clash, 16-year-old Kennet Eichhorn became the youngest goalscorer in post-war German Cup history as Hertha Berlin thrashed Kaiserslautern 6-1.
