BAYERN

Bayern Munich opened their FIFA Club World Cup campaign in ruthless fashion, dismantling New Zealand’s Auckland City 10-0 in Cincinnati to register the biggest victory in the tournament’s history.

Kingsley Coman opened the scoring with a header inside six minutes and was central to the early onslaught, assisting Sacha Boey for the second and rifling in his own second soon after.

Michael Olise tapped in a third at the far post before setting up Thomas Müller to make it five. The Frenchman then curled in Bayern’s sixth before the break as Vincent Kompany’s men went in 6-0 up at half-time.

Although the Bundesliga champions eased off briefly after the restart, substitute Jamal Musiala reignited the onslaught.

The 21-year-old, returning from injury, scored a brilliant curling effort before converting from the spot and later completing his hat-trick after capitalising on a defensive error.

Müller added the tenth with a clinical finish from Serge Gnabry’s cross, marking a fitting performance in what is set to be his final tournament with the club.

The emphatic result smashed the previous Club World Cup record of 6-1, set by Al-Hilal in 2022, and sent a clear warning to Bayern’s rivals in the competition.
