Bayern Munich have completed the signing of German defender Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer, the club announced on Thursday.

The 28-year-old, who spent a decade at Leverkusen and made 402 appearances, has signed a contract with the Bundesliga champions until June 2029.

Talks of a switch had gained momentum earlier in the week, with Tah reportedly completing his medical on Wednesday before visiting Bayern’s headquarters.

“I’m very happy to be at FC Bayern,” said Tah in the club’s official statement. “I want to take on responsibility here and work hard every day so that we’re successful as a team and win lots of trophies together.”

A youth product of Hamburger SV, Tah made his senior debut there before moving to Leverkusen in 2015. He has earned 35 caps for Germany since his first call-up in 2016.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen praised the acquisition, calling Tah “a real gain” and noting his leadership, consistency, and title-winning experience.
