Swiss tennis star Belinda Bencic is embracing the dual role of athlete and new parent as she prepares for her Grand Slam return at the Australian Open.
Bencic and her partner, fitness trainer Martin Hromkovic, welcomed their daughter Bella in April.
Since then, the Tokyo Olympic champion has sought advice from fellow Swiss and retired legend Roger Federer, who famously balanced a stellar career with raising two sets of twins.
“Roger’s experience is incredible, managing four kids while competing at the highest level,” Bencic said on Saturday. “It’s inspiring, and we’re learning a lot about logistics and balance.”
After returning to the court in October for the Billie Jean King Cup, Bencic now faces her first extended trip as a parent in Australia.
She competed in the United Cup and Adelaide International as part of her preparations and will face former French Open champion Jeļena Ostapenko in her opening match at Melbourne Park.
“This trip is a test for us as a family, but so far, we’re managing well,” Bencic added.
