Benfica battled back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Boca Juniors in a heated Group C clash at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in Miami.
Boca struck twice in quick succession through Miguel Merentiel and Rodrigo Battaglia, punishing Benfica with clinical finishing.
Ángel Di María pulled one back from the penalty spot just before halftime after a VAR review, and despite Andrea Belotti’s red card, Benfica equalised late through Nicolás Otamendi’s header.
Both sides finished with 10 men after Jorge Figal was dismissed for Boca, who became the first Argentinian team to avoid defeat against European opposition in the tournament’s history.
