Sunjay Kapur, the Indian-born billionaire and chairman of auto components manufacturer Sona Comstar, has tragically passed away at the age of 53 after reportedly swallowing a bee during a polo match in Windsor, UK. His death occurred on Thursday, June 12, coinciding with the devastating crash of an Air India flight in Ahmedabad that claimed over 200 lives.
Kapur’s last social media post was a heartfelt tribute to the victims of the Air India disaster. He expressed his condolences, saying, “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.”
It is believed that after ingesting the bee, Kapur went into anaphylactic shock, a severe allergic reaction that can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of anaphylactic shock can manifest rapidly and include skin reactions, low blood pressure, airway constriction, and gastrointestinal distress.
Kapur’s unexpected passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes. Sona Comstar released a statement mourning their chairman, describing him as a “visionary leader” whose passion and dedication were instrumental in shaping the company’s success.
A close associate of Kapur shared with The Telegraph the impact he had on those around him: “He will be greatly missed not only by his family and friends but also by the local community. He employed many people and made countless friends, always treating everyone equally, regardless of their status.”
At the time of his death, Kapur was married to model Priya Sachdev, and he had two children from a previous marriage to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, as well as a child with Sachdev, according to Forbes. His legacy as a successful businessman and a beloved member of his community will be remembered by many. Sachdev, says Forbes.
