Boko Haram terrorists on Friday night launched a deadly ambush on troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade who were on routine patrol around Wajiroko in the Azir Multe area of Damboa Local Government, Borno State, resulting in the deaths of four security operatives.
The Army confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, who explained that the soldiers were heading back from a clearance mission near the Sambisa Forest when insurgents opened fire.
According to the statement, “Troops of 25 Task Force Brigade, deployed to secure communities around Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa LGA, came under a sudden and heavy volume of fire from terrorists while returning from a successful patrol along the fringes of Sambisa Forest.”
Anele noted that the patrol, led by Brigadier General M. Uba, Commander of the 25 Brigade, included both soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). She said the team fought back fiercely, overwhelming the attackers with superior firepower and forcing them to retreat in confusion, abandoning their objective.
While commending the troops for their gallantry, she said the Army high command commiserates with families and associates of the deceased gallants for their heroic sacrifice to the nation.
“The Army Headquarters also wishes to debunk the fake narrative going round some media platforms online alleging the abduction of the Brigade Commander.”
She advised the public to disregard the fake news regarding the incident while praying for the continuous success of our gallant servicemen and women.
