Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has seen his transfer value take a massive tumble in the Bundesliga, dropping from €40 million to €20 million, according to the latest player valuation updates. The sharp decline represents the biggest individual drop in Germany’s top flight this season.
The 24-year-old forward, who once stood among Nigeria’s top football exports in Europe, has endured a rough few months on both the club and international fronts. Once valued at over €40 million during Bayer Leverkusen’s sensational unbeaten 2023/24 campaign, Boniface’s stock has now halved following a string of underwhelming performances and off-field setbacks.
Despite the dip, the striker remains Werder Bremen’s most valuable player, though his overall rankings have taken a slide—now sitting 57th in the Bundesliga, 68th among players born in 2000, and 79th among all centre-forwards worldwide.
Boniface’s decline began after a high-profile transfer to AC Milan collapsed over a failed medical earlier in the summer. That setback halted what could’ve been a dream move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs. Since then, he has found himself struggling for form after being loaned from Leverkusen to Werder Bremen, where he’s yet to open his goal account.
In four substitute appearances so far, Boniface has only managed one assist—during Bremen’s 4–0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach—but has yet to make the kind of impact that once made him one of Europe’s hottest young strikers.
His international career has also hit a snag. Under new Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, Boniface has found himself out of the squad, missing the last rounds of World Cup qualifiers as Chelle preferred Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, and Terem Moffi as backups to Victor Osimhen.
This downturn marks a dramatic twist for a player who just two years ago was being celebrated for his dazzling performances at Union Saint-Gilloise, where he clinched the Europa League Golden Boot before joining Leverkusen and lifting three domestic trophies in 2024.
Meanwhile, other Nigerian players in Germany have seen more stability. Nathan Tella (€15m), Felix Agu (€8m), Jordan Torunarigha (€4m), and Kevin Akpoguma (€2.5m) all retained their previous market values.
Elsewhere across the Bundesliga, the latest valuation update brought some major highlights. Jamal Musiala now stands alone at the top of the chart at €140 million, following Florian Wirtz’s transfer to Liverpool. His Bayern teammate Michael Olise saw a massive surge—up €30 million to €130 million—cementing his rise as one of the most promising young wingers in Europe. Interestingly, both Musiala and Olise share Nigerian heritage.
Defender Dayot Upamecano also saw his worth climb to €60 million, while 17-year-old sensation Lennart Karl made headlines with an incredible 1,233% increase, leaping from €1.5 million to €20 million—making him the most valuable player born in 2008.
For Boniface, however, the focus now turns to rediscovering his best form—something that could quickly reverse his fortunes if he can get back to the level that once made him one of Nigeria’s most exciting talents.
