Aitana Bonmati fired Spain into their first-ever UEFA Women’s Euro final with a brilliant extra-time winner against Germany in Lyon.
The Ballon d’Or holder struck in the 113th minute, spinning away from her marker and beating Ann-Katrin Berger with a low finish to seal a 1-0 win and set up a rematch of the 2023 World Cup final against England.
Spain had dominated large spells of the game, but both sides missed chances in normal time. Germany threatened through Klara Buhl and Giovanna Hoffmann, while Spain were denied by the woodwork and Berger’s sharp saves.
Cata Coll made two crucial stops late in the second half, first tipping Buhl’s deflected shot over before blocking Carlotta Wamser’s rebound.
Germany, who had played 120 minutes with 10 players in their quarter-final against France, held firm until Bonmati’s moment of brilliance proved decisive.
Spain will now face England on Sunday, aiming to beat the Lionesses once more after edging them in the World Cup final last year.
