Aston Villa nearly completed a remarkable comeback but ultimately fell short, winning 3-2 on the night but losing 5-4 on aggregate to Paris Saint-Germain in a thrilling Champions League quarter-final.
Villa Park was electric as the hosts looked to overturn a 5-1 deficit. But early hopes were dashed when PSG struck first through Achraf Hakimi after a Martinez error, followed by a second from Nuno Mendes to make it 2-0 on the night.
Villa refused to give in. A deflected Youri Tielemans shot pulled one back before half-time, then John McGinn and Ezri Konsa scored in quick succession after the break to put Villa within a goal of levelling the tie.
Despite creating more chances, Unai Emery’s men couldn’t find the crucial fourth goal. PSG held on and now await the winner of Real Madrid vs Arsenal as they chase their first-ever Champions League crown.
