Marco Brescianini’s last-gasp strike ensured Atalanta clung to the top of Serie A with a dramatic 1-1 draw against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio seemed destined for victory after Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s sensational first-half volley, but Brescianini’s 88th-minute equaliser salvaged a crucial point for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

The result ended Atalanta’s incredible run of 11 consecutive league victories but kept them narrowly ahead of Inter Milan, who stormed past Cagliari 3-0 earlier in the day to apply pressure at the summit.

Lazio dominated the opening half, with Nicolo Rovella delivering a pinpoint ball over the top to Dele-Bashiru.

The Nigerian midfielder, showing exquisite control, cut inside and unleashed a thunderous volley past Marco Carnesecchi in the 27th minute.

Atalanta struggled to break down Lazio’s resolute defense but found their moment of magic late on.

Ademola Lookman provided the decisive assist, threading a pass to Brescianini, who coolly slotted home to silence the home crowd.

The draw keeps Atalanta on 41 points, just one ahead of Inter, who boast a game in hand. Lazio remain fourth, firmly in contention for a Champions League spot.

For Atalanta, the late heroics underline their resilience as they continue their pursuit of a historic Serie A title.
