Brighton & Hove Albion came from behind twice to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Premier League champions Liverpool at the Amex Stadium, claiming their first win against the Reds in five meetings.
Harvey Elliott opened the scoring early for the visitors after a well-worked move involving Mohamed Salah and Conor Bradley.
Brighton responded through Yasin Ayari, who calmly finished off Brajan Gruda’s pass to make it 1-1.
Just before half-time, Dominik Szoboszlai restored Liverpool’s lead with a powerful strike, but Brighton remained resilient.
Substitute Kaoru Mitoma pounced on a rebound to level again, before fellow sub Jack Hinshelwood converted Matt O’Riley’s cross to complete the turnaround.
The win moves Brighton up to eighth in the table, three points above Brentford, with one match remaining.
That position could be enough to secure European football next season.
Liverpool, despite their title success, suffered consecutive away league defeats for the first time since April 2023, though they extended their record of scoring in every away match this campaign.
