The Carabao Cup third round draw has set up a host of intriguing ties, pairing Premier League heavyweights with lower-league hopefuls while keeping alive the dream of upsets.

Grimsby Town, fresh from their dramatic penalty shootout win over Manchester United, will travel to Sheffield Wednesday in a clash, rich with history and passion.

Defending champions Newcastle face a trip to Bradford, while Liverpool were drawn at home to Southampton.

Arsenal head to Port Vale, Manchester City visit Huddersfield, and Chelsea travel to Lincoln City in a tie that will capture the imagination.

Tottenham host Doncaster, while Brentford and Aston Villa square off in one of two all-Premier League contests. Crystal Palace will meet Millwall in a fiery south London derby.

The third round will take place over two weeks in September, starting the week commencing the 15th, with clubs involved in European competitions entering the following week.

In a nod to the competition’s history, every former winner will don a special sleeve patch showing the number of times they have lifted the trophy.

Liverpool, the most successful side in the competition’s history with nine titles, will proudly wear theirs when they host the Saints.
